The lights at TU International Cricket Ground were lit up during Tihar, "the festival of lights". ✨

An exciting new era for Nepali cricket was illuminated during the auspicious festival of Tihar as the floodlights at the Tribhuvan University (TU) International Cricket Ground were switched on for the first time. The successful lighting of the stadium on Laxmi Puja, a day celebrating prosperity, has brought the dream of hosting night cricket to life for a nation of passionate fans.

This momentous event, which took place on October 20, 2025, marks the near-completion of a major upgrade to the Kirtipur venue.

Milestone for Nepali cricket

Lights on: Following the final installation of all six floodlight towers on October 19, the lights were powered on the very next day, signifying a huge step forward for the sport in Nepal.

Infrastructure boost: The floodlight installation is part of a larger renovation project at the TU ground, which also includes the construction of a new parapet to increase seating capacity.

Night matches await: The upgrade will enable Nepal to host its first-ever cricket matches under lights. Fans are eagerly anticipating the night games scheduled for the upcoming Nepal Premier League (NPL), which begins on November 17, 2025.

International standards: The infrastructure development moves the ground closer to meeting international standards, which is crucial for Nepal's ambition to become a full member of the International Cricket Council.
